On the Occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work: Odesa Sea Port Strengthens Emergency Preparedness of Personnel

On the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the Odesa Branch of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (SE “USPA”) continues its systematic efforts to enhance employee safety.

Ensuring the safety of personnel remains a top priority for the operations of the SE “USPA”. Continuous health and safety measures are actively implemented, including regular training sessions and drills aimed at preparing staff for emergency situations.

A key priority remains training employees in pre-medical (first aid) assistance. To date, nearly all port authority staff have already completed such training – on multiple occasions and with the involvement of specialists from various organizations, including the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, specialized training providers, paramedics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and medical professionals from the port’s medical unit.

A new cycle of training sessions is currently underway, delivered by the International Seafarers Foundation (ISF). These sessions are conducted on a voluntary basis and are free of charge for the enterprise. They are also fully equipped with the necessary training tools, including certified tourniquets, simulation mannequins, and consumable materials.

During the training, employees practice essential emergency response skills, particularly life-saving techniques such as controlling severe bleeding and providing first aid. After completing the training, participants take a simple test and receive certificates.

  • “Occupational safety today is not only a requirement of the times but also a daily responsibility for everyone. We are consistently working to ensure that our employees are prepared for any situation and can act confidently when needed,” said Andrii Kulykov, Head of the Occupational Safety Service of the Odesa Branch of the SE “USPA”.

The Odesa Sea Port Authority will continue to place strong emphasis on fostering a safety culture and improving staff preparedness.
