A delegation of the United Nations World Food Programme visited the port of Odesa

A delegation of the United Nations World Food Programme (UN WPF), led by Acting Executive Director Mr. Carl Skau, visited the Odesa branch of the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority".

During the visit, the delegation received a briefing on the operation of the port of Odesa under martial law, including the functioning of the port infrastructure and the measures in place to ensure the operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor. In 2023, the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority" established its Coordination Centre at the port of Odesa to coordinate vessel calls to and from Ukraine's seaports.

The UN WPF uses the ports of Greater Odesa to procure and export Ukrainian wheat and vegetable oil to countries in need of humanitarian food assistance. In addition, the United Nations World Food Programme charters vessels to transport Ukrainian agricultural products as part of its humanitarian operations and the international Grain from Ukraine Initiative, launched by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in 2022.

The visit of the the UN WPF delegation reaffirmed the strategic importance of the port of Odesa as a key component of Ukraine's maritime logistics system, ensuring the continuity of export operations and supporting the implementation of international humanitarian initiatives aimed at strengthening global food security.
