“The Incredible Port.” To Be Continued…

A year ago, we set sail on a voyage across the waves of the Port of Odesa's history. And the farther our journey took us, the more clearly we realized one simple truth: the port's history knows no horizon. With every new publication, we became increasingly convinced that its past could never be contained within archival volumes, museum exhibitions, or even hundreds of individual stories.

As our journey continued, another truth emerged ever more clearly — one that we returned to in almost every article: above all, a port is about people. The people who built it, loaded its cargo, welcomed ships, saw them off, created, dreamed, and believed. The people whose lives became forever intertwined with the sea and with Odesa. That is why our stories were never just about ships, infrastructure, records, or remarkable operations. First and foremost, they were about the people behind them. And the deeper we immersed ourselves in this history, the more certain we became that its greatest treasure is human memory.

Over the past year, we have published 50 stories. Fifty journeys into the past. Fifty opportunities to be surprised, to remember, to smile, or to discover a new chapter in the biography of the Port of Odesa. More than once, we thought that the latest discovery would surely be the last. Yet every story inevitably led to another, every well-known fact revealed an unexpected detail, and behind every major event stood a human life that simply had to be told.

From the very beginning, The Incredible Port was meant to be a journey we would take together with you, our readers. You read our stories, shared your thoughts, debated, added your own insights, passed the publications on to friends and family, recognized your loved ones among the people we wrote about, and recalled stories of your own.

Thanks to you, this project became far more than a series of publications. It became a genuine conversation among people who care deeply about the port. And perhaps the greatest reward for us has been knowing that these stories have found a place in your hearts.

Today, The Incredible Port completes its first great voyage. But this is neither the end nor a farewell. Because the history of the port is still being written—right now. Every day it is shaped by the work of its people, by new events, new challenges, and new achievements. Even today, new chapters of the port's story are being written—chapters that will one day become part of its history.

We sincerely thank everyone who has joined us on this journey over the past months. Thank you for your attention and interest, for your likes and shares, for your comments and memories, for your encouragement and support. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who helped us discover new topics, remarkable people, and forgotten facts.

Our special thanks go to the generations of Odesa port workers — past and present — for the history they created, a history that deserves to be remembered, celebrated, and passed on.

We conclude this chapter with gratitude and hope, knowing that many more encounters, discoveries, and remarkable stories lie ahead.

Astern remain the stories already told. Ahead are those still waiting for their time. And somewhere between them will always be the line of the horizon, inviting us to keep moving forward.

We are not saying goodbye.
We are simply saying: see you again.
