Happy Birthday, Port of Odesa!
Dear Port Workers, Dear Friends,
There are cities that are impossible to imagine without the sea. There are seas that are impossible to imagine without ports.
And then there is Odesa — and its Port. For more than two centuries, they have shared one life.
The Port of Odesa is much more than berths, vessels, cranes and tonnes of cargo. It is a symbol of Odesa, Ukraine’s maritime gateway, a place where great journeys to the world begin.
It is a unique school of life — a school of professionalism, responsibility and resilience.
The Port of Odesa has shaped generations of professionals and leaders, given the country talented managers and public figures. It has also inspired writers, artists and musicians — people who carried a piece of Odesa and a piece of its Port out into the world.
Books have been written about it, songs have been composed, films have been made, and artists have captured it on canvas.
Its name is known far beyond Ukraine. For our international partners, the Port of Odesa stands for reputation, professionalism and trust.
But what does it mean to us?
For us, it is something much more. It is the morning hum of the Port. The scent of the sea. The silhouettes of vessels on the roadstead. It is the people brought together by one profession and one shared destiny. It is the memories that stay with us for a lifetime.
And perhaps that is why, wherever life may take someone who once worked at the Port of Odesa, those two words — “Port of Odesa” — will always evoke a feeling of something familiar, something close to the heart. Because the Port is not simply a place where you work. It becomes a part of who you are.
I would like to thank everyone who has shaped and continues to shape the history of the Port of Odesa. Those who have devoted years of their lives to it. Those who are keeping the Port watch today, and those who are defending its future with arms in their hands.
I wish our Port peaceful skies, continued development and great prospects. I am confident that the Port of Odesa will withstand every challenge and that its lights will never go out.
