Cooperation with Italy on infrastructure restoration
On February 08, the Italian delegation headed by the Special Envoy for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Davide La Cecilia visited the Port of Odesa.
Members of the delegation met with Deputy Head of SE "USPA" Dmytro Barinov and Head of Odesa Sea Port Authority Denys Karpov.
During the meeting, the delegation discussed the current security situation and the work of the Odesa port during martial law.
Ukraine continues to ensure the global food security. The Ukrainian Corridor today is the main route for transportation of Ukrainian agricultural products to the global market. Its operation is of the utmost importance not only for Ukrainian economics. As one of the world's most important grain producing countries, today Ukraine is supplying food volume sufficient to stabilize the global market. In fact, Italy is one of top 5 countries - importers of Ukrainian agricultural products, - said Denys Karpov.
During the meeting, the guests were able to see the consequences of severe russian attacks on the port infrastructure, including the damaged seaport passenger terminal and the hotel located nearby.
I have been to Odesa many times, I love this city very much. I remember walking around the seaport, which is your city main point of interest, and it was always full of life. It’s very painful for me to see all the destructions, - said Davide La Cecilia.
Dmytro Barinov in his turn reminded that the first architects involved in construction of Odesa were mostly Italians. Talented Italian architects are the ones who created the “young” Odesa, imbued the city with colours and unusual flavour, forever making it one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
In the early 90s of the 20th century, owing to Italian architects project, the port workers completely renovated and reconstructed the seaport passenger terminal. It shall be noted that the inclined glass for the terminal frontage was delivered by barge across the Mediterranean Sea from Trieste, Italy, - said Dmytro Barinov.
